Interviews form the basic selecting criteria for most large companies. However, some people think that the interview is not a reliable method of choosing whom to employ. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In many large companies, interviews are the main way of selecting new employees. While I agree that interviews can help employers learn more about candidates, I believe they are not always the most reliable way to choose the right person for the job.
One reason interviews can be helpful is because they allow employers to meet the candidate in person. This gives them a chance to observe how the person presents themselves, communicates, and gives a response to questions. For example, a confident and polite candidate may leave a good impression, which can be important for roles involving teamwork or customer service. In this way, interviews provide useful information that may not be clear from a CV alone.
However, interviews also have several limitations. Some people become nervous during interviews and may not perform well, even if they have the right qualifications and experience. On the other hand, a confident speaker might impress the interviewer without actually having the necessary skills. Because of this, companies might overlook strong candidates or choose someone unsuitable. Additionally, many interviews focus on general questions that do not properly assess the actual abilities required for the role.
To improve the selection process, companies should combine interviews with other recruitment methods. For instance, practical tests, group tasks, or trial workdays can demonstrate how candidates perform in real-life situations and how they interact with others.
In conclusion, although interviews are commonly used and offer some valuable insight, I believe they should not be the only recruitment method. A combination of different techniques is fairer and more reliable when selecting the best person for the job.
